Artificial Limbs
& Appliances Programs
Action that creates a more accessible world.
Artificial Limbs & Appliances Programs were conducted 8 times during March 2019 and March 2023. Free assessment, measurement, and distribution camps for artificial limbs, hands, aids & appliances were conducted for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) across multiple districts.
These camps were held in collaboration with organizations like Saksham Artificial Limb Centre and Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, covering Nagpur, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Solapur districts.
Disability Certification & UDID Card Programs
Transforming lives through inclusive action.
Disability Certification & UDID Card Programs was conducted on February 2023 and September 2024. Special drives were conducted to assess PwDs for disability certification and issue UDID (Unique Disability ID) cards
These were carried out across all PHCs, rural hospitals, and blocks in Gadchiroli and Solapur districts, bringing government entitlements directly to beneficiaries.
I.Q. Assessment Camps for Students
Ensuring no one is left behind in the spaces we build.
I.Q. Assessment Camps for Students were conducted on January 2023 and August 2024 IQ assessment camps were organised for students with intellectual disabilities
Camps were organized in Gadchiroli and Solapur districts, covering all 12 blocks in each district. These camps help identify and document cognitive disabilities for appropriate support and government benefits.
Hearing Impairment Programs
Breaking barriers, building inclusion.
Hearing Impairment Programs were conducted between February 2020 – October 2020. A series of programs were conducted for children and individuals with hearing disabilities, including screening and assessment camps at district hospitals in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur.
As a part of this program cochlear implant surgery program at Nagpur's Government Medical College, and free distribution of digital hearing aids to children in Nagpur.
COVID-19 Relief Programs
Efforts to revert crisis on humanity.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, multiple relief activities were carried out including distribution of ration kits in Nagpur's containment zones under the 'Farishte Project', distribution of masks, sanitizers & biscuits in Amaravati district.
A broader lockdown relief program covering food kits, cancer medicines, helpline support and public awareness across Maharashtra, and a published research study on how the pandemic impacted accessibility for PwDs in the Nagpur region.
Government Outreach / Awareness Programs
Leaving no stone unturned.
Two ongoing awareness-based initiatives — the Shaasan Aaplya Dari (Government at PwDs' Door) Abhiyan covering Bhandara, Gondia & Gadchiroli districts.
It brings government schemes directly to PwDs at their doorstep, and regular seminars, workshops & awareness camps for persons with mental illness across Maharashtra.
Zero Pendency Drive for Disability Certification
Dedicated to dignity, equality, and independence.
MITRA spearheaded a 'Zero Pendency Drive' for disability certification, ensuring the issuance of disability certificates to Persons with Disabilities within 100 days at the Block Level.
This programme directly addressed the backlog of certification applications and facilitated access to government entitlements for PwDs. The drive was conducted across multiple districts of Maharashtra.
Research & Documentation Programme
Performing action creating knowledge.
MITRA has conducted applied research and published findings in the field of disability. A notable publication is its research paper on 'Accessibility Issues of Persons with Disabilities due to COVID-19 Pandemic in Nagpur Region.
This research analysed the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on PwDs and contributed to the policy discourse on inclusive emergency response.
Festival / Exhibition for PwDs
Utilizing all avenues for inclusion and empowerment.
The Second Vidarbha Demonstration & Sales Festival was held over 3 days in Nagpur, showcasing and selling items made by Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan).
The event served as a platform to promote the economic empowerment and entrepreneurship of PwDs.
Skill Enhancement Program
What Sets Us Apart
A month-long skill enhancement program was conducted for PwDs at Gondwana University under the District Disabilities Support & Inclusion Program in Gadchiroli district.
The program was aimed at improving employability and vocational skills.
